Two veteran chefs have united on a project that will make Houston's coffee shops and farmers markets a little sweeter. Chef Jeff Weinstock (Brennan's, Siphon Coffee, Black Hill Meats) and baker Max Torres (Slow Dough Bread Co., Weights + Measures) have launched a business with the goal of increasing the number of pastry and charcuterie options in Houston.

Baked goods are just as important as their meaty companions and include breads, pastries, pies, and other assorted leavened choices. According to Cake & Bacon, their baked products are made with all-natural ingredients. Large loaves are baked, packaged, and delivered to local restaurants and retailers, often before dawn. Items such as the cranberry loaf glisten majestically and look — you guessed it— prime for consumption. Other breads pop with grains and seeds and even pair with meats to form tantalizing filled combinations. Last but certainly not least, your sweet tooth is covered as the bakery produced a variety of tender scones and fruity Danish.

When the coronavirus hit Houston, Bellaire resident Jeff Weinstock started working with local nonprofit Thrive Pro Bono to collect donations for food orders from local restaurants and deliver meals to hospitals, fire stations, and police stations. Jeff and business partner Max Torres, who together own wholesale bakery and butcher shop Cake and Bacon, hope to help local restaurants while helping those on the frontlines of the pandemic.

Houston’s farmer’s markets have always had plenty to offer when it comes to shopping and dining, but in the post-COVID era, when open-air spaces are preferred, a visit to an outdoor market can be a welcome respite from the stress of the grocery store. Jeff Weinstock, the owner of wholesale bakery and butcher shop Cake & Bacon, had been out assisting with rescue missions and food deliveries… What should have been a 15-minute trip, took about 45. But with Weinstock as their guide, the family arrived safely and on time for Tony’s surgery. “It just kind of hit me after dropping him off, it was cool to be a part of that experience and to be so helpful,” Weinstock told TODAY.
